How software kills waste

E-waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world. But for how long? Because, as we have become used by piles of bulky old electronics that nobody wants to see again, the world of electronics has rapidly changed - thanks to clever use of software.

From having filled our desks with fax machines, calculators and desk top computers we are now down to two, maximum three devices. These devices are also relying on software, which is easy to update and in fact enables you to keep the devices longer and still keep up with the latest services. Although Apple is trying to convince you to buy an iPhone6 they still sell the three years old iPhone4S (and the MacBook Pro).

There are many good things in this story. The best part is that this opens up for more reuse and efficient use of electronics. Because with more services in the cloud or easily updated client software more people can still use your old computer even after you think it's "uncool".
